An extract from Positive Luxury

2018 is a particularly special year for women, as the 100th anniversary of the vote approaches, and on 8th March we celebrate International Women’s Day. It aims to push forward the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and strive for gender equality, and makes the perfect opportunity to unite for good. We’ve rounded up our favourite female-focused quotes, as told to us by some of our #BrandsToTrust, plus celebrity inspirations too...

“I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them. I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity.”
– Michelle Obama

“Don’t focus on your limitations – always think big and believe in your ability to fulfil your dreams and ambitions.  Speak up where you see inequality, seek opportunities to put wrongs right and use your competitive spirit and ingenuity to lend support to any other woman who seeks a helping hand in achieving her own dreams and ambitions.”
– Bozena Jankowska, Founder,

“We do not need magic in our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. We have the power to imagine better”
– J.K. Rowling

“Female empowerment in a global era of gender inequality, is the deepest privilege for women who are prepared to champion other women through social impact. Our greatest honour, in pursuit of creating opportunities for other women to flourish, is for love and persistent efforts to make a difference. Empower a woman determined to rise, and you empower the force behind an entire community.”
– Jennifer Ewah, Founder, Eden Diodati

“Smart women love smart men more than smart men love smart women.”
– Natalie Portman

“Women are the mothers of next generation. Empowering them, is an investment for all genders. Be who you want to be! It is a choice of leadership that demands us to question our direction and makes sure that we are respecting our inner self in each of our life choices.”
– Nezha Alaoui , Founder and CEO, Mayshad Paris

“I look forward to the day where equality is a reality, and judgment between different races, religions and sexes is no longer evident. Lets not repeat errors of the past and judge or degrade men for the history of women’s oppression. Lets rise above, lead by example, and embody true equality. As opposed to swinging the pendulum the other way with one sex being ‘better’ than the other.”
– Samantha Sargent, Founder, Be Genki

“We all know that when women are empowered, they immeasurably improve the lives of everyone around them. This is not just about women. We men need to recognize the part we play too. Real men treat women with dignity and the respect they deserve.”
– Prince Harry

“We have so much to learn from the ocean with regards to diversity and what true strength is. A reef is only healthy when everyone flourishes; from the corals, to the fish, to the predators and all the way to small guys – the zoo and phyto planktons, their wellbeing is deeply interlinked. The success and strength of one is the success and strength of all… the same is true for us, we just need to sometimes put our heads underwater to remember!”
– Hanli Prinsloo, Founder, I AM WATER

“I hope that my presence on your screen and my face in magazines may lead you young girls on a beautiful journey, that you will feel validation of your external beauty, but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside.”
– Lupita Nyong’o

“I feel that women should look within themselves to find their own source of empowerment, one should not be worried or led by what others consider to be “feminist” in their ideals as we’ve all come from different influences and have differing goals. Find your own ground and hold it.”
– Hanneli Rupert, Founder, Okapi

“I call myself a feminist. Isn’t that what you call someone who fights for women’s rights?”
– Dalai Lama

“I take inspiration from Mother Nature – strength, power, beauty… don’t stand in our way!”
– Helen Newcombe, Founder, Davy J
